What happens when you stop believing what you’re supposed to as a Christian.

What happens when you stop believing what you’re supposed to?

What happens when you’re not sure that it’s a sin to be gay anymore?
What happens when you don’t believe in a place of eternal conscious torment called Hell anymore?
What happens when you don’t believe the Bible is God’s inerrant word as we typically understand it?

I’m not talking about those doubts we all face like, where is God or why does suffering happen or will this pain ever end?

I’m talking about those things we are led to believe are the fundamental truths we need to believe in order to be a Christian.

What do you do?

You do this.

You remember that you’re not the only one even if no one else is saying it.
You remember that God’s Love for you isn’t determined by what you do which includes what you believe about Him.

You remember that gay people are not objects to lob Bible verses at but people whom we need to eat with, share stories with and let our guards down before.

You remember that God wants us to work for peace, justice and Love right now. Not simply to get through this life avoiding pain and the world in case it drags us down.

You remember that the Bible is living and even it’s writers, were just mere human mortals whose own doubts, fears, prejudices and sins crept into their telling of God.

And most of all you stop seeing your faith as something that is required to be built on certainty, being right and being perfect to be real.

Because it’s not until we realize that it never can be, that it will come alive.

      • Paul, did you know on the Day of Judgement, there will be people rejected from the eternal presence of Jesus, who thought they were Christians?

They are the ones who say to Jesus “Lord, Lord…have we not done this in Your Name….and that in the your Name…..”

You know what Jesus will say to them? “I never knew you, depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness”.

        Frightening, isn’t it!?

All the more reason to make sure we are a child of God, and not a child of Satan.

The one who is being deceived doesn’t know he is being deceived.

  1. Paul, you posed the following questions to your readers:

“What happens when you’re not sure that it’s a sin to be gay anymore?
What happens when you don’t believe in a place of eternal conscious torment called Hell anymore?
What happens when you don’t believe the Bible is God’s inerrant word as we typically understand it?”

Please allow me to tell you what happens….

You start inventing a false god according to your own imagination. You end up putting your trust in your fickle feelings and superficial emotions. You end up believing lies instead.
