So back to Belgium. And Dis and his wallpaper lions who jump out and attack him. Why does Arthur, the father of the house that Dis stays in chase them away rather than try and convince him that they’re not real? That’s a great question. When a man who lives in the town of Geel in Belgium sees lions jumping out from his wallpaper and running at him, the father of the family he lives with doesn’t try to convince him that they aren’t real; rather he chases them away.
Or when another boarder, constantly and obsessively fiddles with the buttons on his jacket so much that they come off everyday; rather than using fishing wire to attach the buttons making them more difficult to remove, the mother of the family he lives with, sits down each evening and resows the buttons on.
So three day days ago was Belfast Pride. By all accounts a wonderful, joyous celebration of Love and acceptance. I was sad I missed it because Belfast is a city in a country that often seems very divided and any opportunity to join thousands of other people from different faith or no faith backgrounds, variety of political persuasions, skin colors, Protestants and Catholics, should be grabbed with both hands.
