What about whenever a Christian minister in a church that serves God as Jesus directs in the Bible is asked to marry a man to another man in a church building??
That’s something that will have to be carefully worked through respectfully but my marriage won’t be affected and any other heterosexual couples marriage will not be affected. Marriage hasn’t changed. It’s just now more people are able to be married.
For far too long, ministers who married couples have been doing so flippantly. Think about it. You’re responsible for who you unite. You’re joining two to become one. And you can barely remember their names without looking down at a paper. Marriage in the Bible is a big deal.
Ministers who perform marriages would rock at this whole new scenario if they would take all marriage more seriously. “Want me to perform your marriage? Perfect. 10 weeks of intensive pre marriage prep courses, followed by a 7 day fast. And after that, I still get to refuse to marry the two of you if I’m not convinced it’s a solid idea that you get married.” Something like that. (Performing marriages shouldn’t be a way to make a little dough on the side. But if it is, why do you suddenly care if the couple you’re marrying are sinning in a way you can see, vs. all the ways you couldn’t see before?)
Imagine, though, how much stringer all marriages could become if we actually took it seriously?
